The Careers would be the hardest to kill and she didn’t understand why he wasn’t with them, she knew she should be grateful that he didn’t kill her or that he was with them - they had a better survival rate with him - but Katniss still didn’t trust him. It wasn’t that she didn’t trust him, personally, it was the fact he was Peacekeeper and ever since they invading District 12 and almost killing Gale — her hatred for him only grew. She knew they were only following orders but was is so hard for them to see the damage they were causing?
As the others passed them Peeta gently placed his hand on Katniss’ shoulder as a way to ask her if she needed him to stay, but she quickly shook her head. Like James kept saying, he didn’t want to kill her —- yet.
”Why you’re here?—-” She had to stop herself. He was here because of the Capitol, because of Snow. He wasn’t here by choice. Leave him alone? “—- Fine.” Katniss readjusted the strap of her bow as she went to walk away from the ill tempered man but he spoke again, in a different tone.
In every Games the Victor had to kill someone or witness someone’s death, it changed people. But being a Peacekeeper she thought that death never phased him anyone — there was obviously one that kept him up at night. She wasn’t going to ask him about it because she knew he wouldn’t want to talk about it — right now wasn’t time for stories.
”We have to keep moving.”
Katniss spoke before the speed of her walking quicken for a moment, she looked over her shoulder to James for a moment — was he not the man she thought she was? Could it be possible for a Peacekeeper to be nice.
James Barnes was a government experiment from long before the Dark Days, and that made him a sitting target in almost everything that he did. He’s the kind of person that had learnt to deal with no trust, and no friendly attitude towards him. He’d suffered with it long enough, and the attitude from the other girl was enough to push him over the edge right now – but he had to stay with her and make sure that she saw it out of here. Even if it ended up meaning that his life was on the line
“I’m here, because Snow doesn’t like reminders of the past. “ His eyes narrowed up towards the camera. He had been in here, because Snow didn’t like the idea of a back-log of memories that he held
At least it seemed like she understood, that she knew something was up. James gave a slight shake of his head. He didn’t have to follow — he could’ve easily gone off. “You don’t have to follow them. Personally, I’d get Peeta and get out. Don’t trust any of them.” He certainly wouldn’t.
James Barnes wouldn’t lie when about the constant nightmares he had over Natasha. They had to kill one and other, it was just that way. If they had been clever enough to allow one of them to die when the games first began, one of them could’ve gotten away with it. He didn’t want that to have to happen with any of the others here.
“Ignore that. You’re right.”

He didn’t even bother to keep focussed on her. He moved quietly back into the jungle, following after the tracks of the other victors. Hopefully, she would take what he said to at least some fruition. No-one in these games should be trusted.
Of course there was no water. It seemed like these gamemakers were trying to do everything in their minds to get this...
